A Home Designed for the Next Chapter

The homeowners on this project were returning to Utah after several years in the Midwest, ready to put down long-term roots closer to family. Like many clients in a similar stage of life, their priorities were clear: create a home that better supports daily routines, provides space to gather, and feels intentional in both design and function.

They initially found Marshall Homes through an online search, but what ultimately set the decision apart was the process. A structured, organized approach and consistent feedback from past clients gave them confidence that their project would be handled with clarity from start to finish.

The result is a comprehensive transformation that rethinks how the home works at every level. From a dramatically expanded kitchen to improved layout flow and added functional spaces, the finished home feels cohesive, refined, and built for how this family lives every day.

Kitchen Expansion: The True Star of the Show

The most significant change in this project was the complete transformation of the kitchen. What was once a smaller, pass-through space was expanded to more than double its original size, creating a true central hub for the home.

This wasn’t just about adding square footage. The homeowners wanted to reinvent how the space functions. The new layout centers around a large island that anchors the room, providing space for everyday meals, casual gatherings, and entertaining. Surrounding cabinetry adds both storage and visual structure, keeping the space clean and organized without feeling overbuilt.

Just as important, the kitchen now connects naturally to the surrounding living areas. Sightlines are open, movement feels intuitive, and the space supports everything from busy mornings to hosting family and friends.

Great Room

Large windows bring in consistent natural light and create a strong connection to the outdoors. The space feels open and comfortable without losing a sense of structure.

Fireplace

The fireplace was shifted to create proper alignment within the great room. This small structural change significantly improved the symmetry and overall feel of the space.

Butler's Pantry

A dedicated butler's pantry or back kitchen creates space for prep, storage, and cleanup without disrupting the main living area. It keeps the primary kitchen focused on gathering while still supporting the realities of daily use.

Defined Entry

Arched openings help define the transition from the entry into the main living areas. The result is a more intentional arrival experience while maintaining flow throughout the home.

Exterior Transformation

The front of the home was redesigned to move away from the dated colonial style toward a cleaner, more modern look. Stonework and a custom iron door create a strong first impression without overcomplicating the design.
